Position Summary:
A
home health aide (HHA) is a certified nursing assistant (CNA) with
additional training in caring for patients in their homes. Their work
enables elderly, disabled, and ill patients to live in their own homes
rather than in a health care facility. HHAs contribute to the
efficiency and quality of the health care system. With their help,
patients can spend less time in the hospital, which not only reduces
health care expenses, but also allows patients to enjoy the comforts of
their own home. HHAs are responsible for providing direct
care designed to improve individual and/or family quality of life to a
specified client group and their families. This position is under the
direct supervision of a registered nurse to assist the patient to
perform two or more ADL’s.
Essential Job Functions:
- Take vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate).
- Provide direct patient care such as assisting with bathing, eating, dressing, and walking.
- Turn and reposition bedridden patients to prevent breakdown of their skin.
- Change bed linens.
- Record the amount of oral intake and measure urinary output.
- Assist with oral medications.
- Change non-sterile dressings (bandages).
- Supply and empty bedpans.
- Give emotional support to patients and family members.
- Keep a record of the care given.
- Report any change in condition or any concerns to the Case Manager.
- Follow infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of organisms.
- Provide light housekeeping duties when ordered.
Essential Job Requirements:
| EDUCATION: | Must have current CNA License | |
| EXPERIENCE: |
Minimum of 1 year home health/hospice care or related experience |

| REQUIRED SKILLS: | Detail oriented, organized, ability to multi-task, deal effectively with the demands of the job | |
| PREFERRED SKILLS: | Bi-lingual, Self-starter, ability to work alone under little supervision |
