Hospice Services

Hospice is a designed program that supports the recognition of death as the final stage of life. Hospice provides comfort care that focuses on the emotional, physical, and spiritual services to those patients and families with terminal illnesses. Guardian Home Care and Hospice allows for a transition for those home care patients that are in need of hospice services at a later time.

Hospice services are covered by Medicare Part A and most private insurance carriers. Coverage is also available from Medicaid within Idaho.

Service Includes:

  • Daily assistance with personal care available
  • 24 hour licensed nursing availability to meet the needs of our patients and families
  • Pain management with symptom control, emotional and spiritual support
  • Services provided in residential care facilities and skilled nursing facilities, as well as in the home
  • Respite care in the home or in an assisted living facility for families needing a reprieve from providing care
  • Education to the patient and family regarding end-of-life issues
  • Spiritual and bereavement services offered to the patient and family
  • Volunteer services
  • Chaplain services

Volunteers can work with patients:

  • Provide small conversation
  • Assist with shopping or running errands

Volunteers can help in other ways:

  • Make treats for the families
  • Help Guardian staff with mailings and paperwork
  • Run errands and help with hospice events (local golf tournament, etc.)

Hours are flexible from 1 to 40 hours per month--you decide!

Do I have the "right stuff"?

  • A desire to help others
  • A desire to give back to the community
  • A good listener
  • A cheerful, positive attitude
  • A willingness to work with those nearing the end of life

Disclaimer: When volunteering, many people experience a heightened sense of compassion and connection to the world. There are notable increases in trust and sincerity. People also tend to smile more and seem to notice that their own problems get smaller and easier to handle. These symptoms are easily reversible.
